One of the most famous thought experiments in modern philosophy isRobert Nozick’s “experience machine,” which he wroteabout in his 1974 Anarchy, State, andUtopia： 【如果有一个experience machine, 姑且叫做体验机器吧，它能让你去体验任何你以为真实的场景，能实现你的各种YY，前提是这些都是假的，虚幻的，但你也不会知道，你可以永远呆在里面，过一种全新的生活，你会选择去么】 Supposethere were an experience machine that could give you any experience youdesired. Superduper neuropsychologists could stimulate your brain so that youwould think and feel you were writing a great novel, or making a friend, orreading an interesting book. All the time you would be floating in a tank, withelectrodes attached to your brain. Should you plug into this machine for life,preprogramming your life’s experiences?
